Do You Love Audiobooks As Much As I Do?

To be honest, I’m a real audiobook maniac!

The story of my addiction began almost 11 years ago when my youngest daughter was born. The baby slept only in a rolling stroller, so I had to walk for 2-3 hours every day in any weather. Walking the streets is just so boring, but you can’t read a book on the go and even pushing a stroller. This is where I discovered the world of audiobooks!

It turned out that even with a lack of free time, you can listen to a lot of books! I do all the household chores — washing, cleaning, cooking-with headphones. Work in the garden also takes place under listening to books. Trips, vacations, needlework, the way to work and back — everywhere I am accompanied by my old faithful MP3 player, swollen from stuffed folders with files.

Over the years, I have re-read or rather re-listened to a lot of new books, returned to those that I had already read before. I remember the impression made on me, already an adult, the novel “Fathers and Sons”! In school, there was one perception, in adulthood — completely different! I don’t know if I would ever have gotten to rereading the same “Notre Dame”, “Anna Karenina”, “Jane Eyre” and other books I read in my youth. And when I found them in the audio version, I couldn’t pass them by and didn’t regret a bit! Familiar stories and characters are revealed from a new side, the characters and actions of the characters from the height of the lived years are evaluated differently! And how many new authors I have discovered!

It’s interesting that I have associations with books. For example, “Brody’s Castle” is a raspberry flavor. It was for this book that last year I collected these berries and made jam. But Yu Nesbe is an endless highway because I listened to his ” bat ” on the way to a business trip and back. Max fry — a pile of maple leaves in the autumn Park, through which I took my first-grade daughter to school and back.

But my daughters don’t like audiobooks. We have a long tradition — I read to them before going to bed. I admit that sometimes I get tired, lazy, I have to finish things. I tried to download and include well-read books for them, but they always ask me to read them myself…

My husband is also heavily “hooked” on audiobooks. We have different literary tastes, but still, sometimes we share our impressions, advise each other what may be liked by the other.

Now the cottage has become a much more important place in our lives than before, and work in the garden and in the house requires more time. It is boring to weed a long bed in silence or paint an endless fence. Again, audiobooks and plays come to the rescue. With them, any monotonous work becomes a pleasure akin to meditation.

Currently, there are sites where audiobooks are placed in the public domain quite legally! There are also old restored recordings of radio plays, books recorded for VOS, and novelties read by both professional actors and Amateur readers.

Of course, if I have free time, I allow myself the luxury of reading a real paper book. It is a special pleasure to rustle pages, to feel the aroma of new paper or the mysterious and slightly dusty smell of an old book. But unfortunately, the eyes are already tired of reading. And it is not often possible to carve out half an hour and completely disconnect from the business.

So again — Long live audiobooks!
